Plateau 2023: Lalong not supporting any aspirant – Deputy Governor Tyoden
Plateau State Deputy Governor, Professor Sonni Tyoden on Tuesday denied rumours making the rounds in some quarters that Governor Simon Lalong has endorsed any Governorship aspirant.
Tyoden who spoke while answering questions from newsmen shortly after attending the 101st General Church Council of the Church of Christ in Nations in Jos ,said My Governor Simon Lalong has not endorsed any aspirant ,if he has ,he would have told me , I am the number 2 man in Plateau ,I am the closest to Lalong because I am his deputy , I am not aware of anything like that , he stressed .
On the allegations raised by several groups that Lalong has endorsed an aspirant ,he said I believe what the groups were asking for is a level playing ground for all aspirants ,which is what democracy is all about .
Speaking on the forthcoming All Progressives Congress APC primaries slated for Friday, Tyoden called on delegates to vote wisely .
In his words ” I call on the delegates to do the needful ,not to be carried away by the material attachment, because the fate of the state hangs on them.”
Our correspondent reports that Tyoden had declared his intention to take over from his Principal, Governor Simon Lalong, as Governor in 2023.
Tyoden recently said as the State Deputy Governor since 2015 said he is the best candidate to succeed Governor Lalong as he has the experience and competence to positively continue with the rescue administration’s agenda for the State.
Speaking on his ambition ,Tyoden said ” my hopes are bright ,I have gone round the state and seen the challenges ,the people are with us. ”
Tyoden, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, further added that
“ My aspiration is partly motivated by the burning desire to sustain and possibly expand the frontiers of the legacies of the Rescue Administration in the state. “
